Situation
Located on Central America in the Caribbean zone between Cuba and Puerto Rico, the Hispaniola Island is bathed between the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, is composed by two countries Haiti to the west and Dominican Republic to the east, the two countries of the island.
Santo Domingo is the capital and Santiago de los Caballeros the second largest city of the country. The main five airports which receive many tourists from North America and Europe are located in Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, La Romana and EL Catey in Samaná.
History
The origin of the Dominican history comes from the Tainos, one of the most advanced indigenous civilizations of the Antilles. Tainos were a pacific population and at the arrival of the Europeans on 1942 the island had one million of inhabitants in five tribes.
Tainos had a highly advanced technology and also they were very skilled farmers and fishers with settlements close to rivers or coasts. Also craft makers and painters, they leaved sculptures and potteries.
Discovery of the island
Christopher Columbus arrived to the island on December 5, 1942 with a first colony that founded and named La Hispaniola, honoring the country that financed the expedition. He returns in a second trip with 1500 men and priest to evangelize the Indian.
On 1520 the Tainos population was diminished thanks to diseases of the population. To face the diminishing of the Indians in the country the Spanish decided to import African handwork. All this handwork is converted into Christianity by the Spanish priests.
During three centuries a real traffic of slaves was performed by Portuguese, Holland, English and French and a strong separation of social classes was born.
On 18th century La Hispaniola becomes French and the whites govern in an absolute way over the island up to the rebellion of 1791. On 1793 the abolition of slavery is proclaimed. On 1804 Haiti becomes the first black republic of history with Dessaliness General as president. On 1809 the Spanish recover the island again demolishing the Haitian army.
Dominican Republic and Democracy
On 1844 Dominican Republic is created. In full world war the Dominican sugar is a vital resource in 1916, the American army invades the country and later withdraw troops on 1916 and leave Trujillo in the power, who will establish a 30 years government of terror. North Americans should intervene once again in order to save the country from communism.
After the intervention of the country is a democratic republic close to United States. The current president is Leonel Fernandez from the socialist party.
Dominican Republic an incredible island
Dominican Republic is a country where whether and landscapes compose a paradise alchemy. With a sea temperature between 22 and 29 Celsius all year round, kilometers of white sand beaches, a turquoise sea, and splendid coconuts make the island an ideal spot for vacation, the relaxed atmosphere or to start a new life.
The country possesses a diversity of landscapes and a warm population. The smile, joy of life and hospitality of Dominicans make the island unique and totally marvelous. The island has 1500 km of beaches surrounded by coconuts and plantains, deserted regions filled by cactus. Flat surfaces devoted to cultivation in the core of the country. The highest point is Pico Duarte with 3,807 meters. We can also find a salted lake located at 45m below sea level with a fauna of iguanas, pink flamingoes and the last American crocodiles. In the North part we find magnificent beaches, cascades, rivers and even virgin multiple small mountains in a salvage state with an incredible flora. We can also find the reproduction of whales from February to April.
There is a rustic growth and of real estate in the entire island, through the costs.
More than 20% of the surface of the country is classified as a natural reserve. The island has many national parks for the protection of nature. The main parks are Jaragua, Los Haitises, La Caleta, La Sierra de Bahoruco, El Morro, Montecristi among others. All parks represent a surface of 10,000 km2. Several excursions are organized to visit the parks respecting their fantastic nature.
Situation of the Beaches and the Samana Peninsula
Samana bay covers near 1000 km2. The peninsula is rich by its diversity of landscapes and natural beauty; composed by white sanded beaches and a turquoise sea, cascades, rivers and grouts of Tainos and a protected park. With no objection this is one of the most beautiful regions of the island.
The city of Samana constitutes a particular attraction to different investors. We can see an active transformation of the city. Samana is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean in one cost and the Samana bay in the other cost. They also have a port to communicate with Cayo Levantado, also called Bacardi Island”. The observation of hunchback whales, which comes to reproduce them in the Bay, offer a very unique and rich in emotions spectacle. They also have a national park, Los Haitises, which is a truly natural reserve with mangroves, grotto of Tainos; which serve as places of worship and meetings of the Indians where we can discover paintings object of scientific studies. The multiples species of birds offers a beautiful spectacle in the sky with the different flowers in the park; this park is deemed as one of the most interesting parks of the country. This excursion can also depart from Sanchez.
The peninsula of Samana has multiple wild and tranquil beaches in its entire coast. The beach of El Limon and its cascades are part of small pearls to visit of the peninsula. El Limon also has multiple cold rivers and beaches of an odd beauty. There are organized excursions in horses to visit the cascade keeping a local warmth environment.
Among the beautiful beaches we can find a surrounding that become a small city of fishermen and little by little turning into a city in the North cost, Las Terrenas.
In full development after the opening of the international airport of El Catey at only 45 minutes from the city and its private airport El Portillo for private flights in the island. Is a city that keeps the aspects of small town very cosmopolitan, where is still possible to find deserted beaches with sand; a paradise where locals and many foreign residents compose a beautiful ensemble. The small old city of fishermen becomes a place of night life where merengue, bachata and good humor of the Dominicans grants rhythm all night long. During the day there are many possible excursions to different points to visit of the peninsula. Nautical sports are so present with a sail club, kite surf and surf club, a scuba club and big fishing club. The other evident possible sports as tennis, mountain bike, paint ball…
The entire peninsula has an important development and investment, thanks also to the road communicating Catey to Santo Domingo, capital of Dominican Republic.
Coastal areas in Samana, golf court, and other constructions of condominiums in development, also luxury residential… all respecting the charisma and splendor of the landscapes.
